Siem Reap and The Temples of Angkor

Flight from Vientiane to Siem Reap was very quick, about 3hours with a half hour stop over at the border for customs. I met a nice Canadian girl on the plane however she was driving me crazy by the time I landed, was planning my getaway from her while waiting for visa. The visa was very straight forward, paid $30US plus one passport photo and was given 30 days. On exiting the airport I got a moto driver for $2, well $4 as the Canadian girl let me pay for her. I was following her and got caught in traffic lights and gladly watched her bike go off into the distance, haha that was easier than expected! My driver dropped me at a guest house which was pretty central, $10 expensive but planned on finding something cheaper and move in the morning. Driver offered to take me around the temples the next day for $15 he was really nice and sounded like a reasonable deal so I agreed he would pick me up 9am at my guesthouse. If anyone ever needs a driver Mr Sor Sitha 089683584 or sor.sitha@yahoo.com Spent the rest of the afternoon looking around town, Siem Reap is a very pretty city, especially down along the river and the people are so friendly, lots of smiles as walking along the street.

First day of temple hopping was fantastic, visited too many temples to name all or go into details, have posted some photos of Bayon which had some of the prettiest bas reliefs and the trees taking over Ta som. That evening I got a great massage as very sore after all the walking, I ate some delicious Khmer food and watched some traditional dancing. Next morning had 5am start to watch sunrise over Angkor Wat it was just incredible, half way through sunrise I walked into temple so I had some time in there by myself before the crowds, was quite eerie but also a very special experience. The stone work throughout Angkor Wat is so detailed and just beautiful I took lots of photos! Ta prhom was another amazing temple where the forest it taking over, a lot of this temple was closed as too dangerous.

  4. Thank you, Angkor Wat was really amazing all of them were quite different in some way be it sandstone type/colour, types of carvings, some not finished and others more broken down. Luang Prabang was still quite an experience, was a shame I couldn't see some things I had planned. xx
